Head of the Physics Department

Position Details:

It is the duty of the department head to help individuals or groups to formulate their idea for a research proposition by helping them prepare their presentation to be given to the society, all done within the department meeting which the head will chair and organize. It is also the department heads responsibility to assist any members of his/her department to prepare any presentation which that member wishes to give to the society. The department head is the one who brings forward the research proposals to the Head of Research who in turn informs the secretary of all research applications.

Personal Details:

EUYSRA is unique in the way that it pushes and encourages students to get involved into research from the very beginning of their university life. Being able to do research not only enhances your knowledge in your chosen field but also (and one could argue, most importantly) develops your intuition, problem solving skills and increases your confidence in yourself. This is an experience I want to share with, and promote to, many first years next semester. I believe that attracting as many first years as possible is very important, since they will shape the future of the society.

I also believe that all department heads must work together to enhance the EUYSRA experience as a society. People are extremely invested and very passionate about their projects but take little notice in anything beyond their own departments. It is important to get as many people as possible involved in the society as a whole, either by organising more inter-departmental events (dinners, field trips etc…), or pushing more for the cooperation between departments.
